From 1906 - this is the original version of the song that was later remaned "Grand Old Flag". It was very respectful, inspired by a civil war vetran. However much of the public did not see it that way, and Mr. Cohan rewrote the lyrics. It was originally used in the play "George Washington Jr." After "Grand Old Flag" was released, Mr. Cohan took it upon himself the destroy every cylinder and copy of sheet music he could find for Grand Old Rag. There are VERY few surviving copies of either the record or sheet music.
